Learn to Die & thou shalt learn how to Live
It is amazing that we never think of death as a real possibility in our own lives. Dealing with the death whether of our own or of loved ones – remains one of the greatest mystery of our own lives.
Although many people are dying everyday most of us don’t realize or think about our death – is it not the hope that we will be living forever- is the greatest mystery of all.
When dealing with death most people go through several stages- denial, depression, & anger sometimes never leaving us totally. Spiritual masters & great philosophers time long have said & written much on how to reach &remain in a state of acceptance. The following story of a grieving woman & Buddha’s advice to her – that death is universal & inevitable so should be accepted as being inevitable path of life.
A woman grieving the loss of her only son asks Buddha to bring him back to life- Buddha asks her to bring a single mustard seed from a house where there has never been any death. Failing to find a single house where there had been no death, the inconsolable mother now accepts her loss-she even goes one step further & joins Buddha’s order & followings in his spiritual journey.
Whatever our belief system it is clear that by focusing on helping the departed soul our own grief vanishes slowly but steadily-& we will understand the impermanence of life i.e. to learn to die & we will automatically learn to live.
